Buying guides
Buy the right thing first.
Every category below has a buying guide. The comparison guides open with a table of what each type costs and what it fits. Start there, not at a search box. If you are not sure what your room needs, one photo will tell you.

Compare before you buy
Each guide compares the types side by side and links the picks. The table sits just below the quick picks, a few lines under the opening box.

What to buy first, by room
Each room guide has a shop-by-problem section near the top that pairs the fixes worth buying with a planning range. Six of the seven price a starter set in the opening box. The closet guide starts with sorting, which costs nothing.
GarageGet it off the floor and onto the walls. The floor is for the car.Shop by problem
ClosetSort one section first. Then dividers or a second rod. A new system only if those fail.Shop by problem
KitchenZone it, decant the dry goods, then fix the cabinets you cannot reach into.Shop by problem
PantryMeasure shelf depth first. Then zones by meal, clear airtight containers, and labels.Shop by problem
BathroomAbove the toilet first, then under the sink, then the shower wall.Shop by problem
Laundry roomShelving above the machines, then a sorting system, then a slim cart for the gap.Shop by problem
BedroomUnder-bed risers and wheeled bins first, then the walls, before new furniture.Shop by problem Before you order
Four checks that save a return.
- Measure first. Shelf depth and height decide which bins fit. Check the bin's depth against the shelf, not the other way round.
- Count before you buy. Declutter the space first. The pile you keep is what you are buying storage for.
- Match the containers. One size and one style stacks. Mixed bins look like more clutter.
- Buy one, then the set. Test a single bin in the actual spot before ordering six.
